I’m Sherrie Clark the CTO of the Integrated DC Power business unit at ABB leading a global engineering team. While I love being an engineer, one of the most exciting parts of my job has been the experience I have gotten helping others through coaching and mentoring. Many times, focusing on experiences of being a minority in a male-dominated field.

I’ve been lucky to have Sherrie as a mentor over the last year. As my mentor, Sherrie helped me with professional growth as she guided me through strategic planning, setting development goals, and balancing career with motherhood. Every time we meet, she leaves me with a few pieces of brilliant and succinct advice. My notebook is full of her guiding words, which I know I’ll be referencing for years to come.

Why Courage to Be Seen?

Courage to Be Seen was inspired by my own personal and professional journey, and has the mission to elevate one another through support and the sharing of our experiences.

My personal struggle in life included battling the question “Am I enough?”, being overly concerned of judgements and opinions of others, and minimal true connection. Through embracing my own authentic being I have found a different level of enjoyment in my life, deeper personal connections, and more satisfaction and achievement.

Now I would like to help you achieve whatever your dreams may be, enable you to be your best self, and have the Courage to Be Seen.

Keeping a positive attitude is essential in achieving your goals. Maintain faith in yourself and your mission, especially in times of struggle. Hold true to what you believe in and lead by example to inspire those around you.

To create is to give the world a gift, however many times fear causes us to keep these gifts to ourselves. We believe we need to focus on overcoming the fear so it no longer exists. Instead we need to learn to move forward despite our fears and share our gifts with the world.

Be grateful for what you’re capable of and never be shy in sharing your gifts with others. If you’re in a position to help someone in need, jump at the opportunity. You’ll never feel better than when assisting those that are less fortunate than you.

Understand that your limitations have no ceiling, and that the sky is not even the limit. Accept and learn from your failures, and use those as fuel toward your future successes. Explore outside of your comfort zone, and in bringing yourself to heights you never thought possible, you will also elevate those around you.
